Over the summer of 2023, I had the fantastic opportunity of working at Apple as a UX Design Intern. This was my first in-person internship experience, and being located in Apple's headquarters meant seeing some really cool stuff. It was a great experience, and I'm incredibly grateful for my team and the friends I made.
I was tasked with converting an entire design system into dark mode. What initially seemed like a simple project took the whole duration of my internship. I quickly learned that building dark mode was far beyond just changing colors. From day one, I began understanding the complexities of large-scale design systems, analyzing the structure of components layer by layer. In addition to converting over a thousand existing foundations, components, and icons, I kept up with appendages to the design system. I also wrote guidelines and specifications for everything I converted. This dark mode design system is now live for all teams at Apple to use!
